The internet has long been an integral part of private, academic and professional everyday life. Search engines, information services, internet platforms and social networks are just as naturally used by millions of users, as electronic forms of publication. Nevertheless, the legal framework, especially for the use and publication of digital resources in teaching and research are often inadequate and lead to significant limitations.

The course is devoted to the Austrian legal framework and will treat Copyright, Privacy, but also topics like computer security and ethical issues from a practical user’s perspective.
Also, we will look for international legal texts (such as EU Directives, UNESCO guidelines and the legal situation of neighboring countries), as well as alternative forms of publication such as Open Access and Creative Commons”.

Teaching material will be made available for download here.
